The Emerald Atlas Series

By John Stephens

3 Children were taken from the house in the dead of night. Kate, Emma and Michael have been raised in several different orphanages. Memories that they once had of their parents are now gone, faded by years. But in the most recent orphanage, the children think that something strange is going on. When they find a book of a lot of importance they release the power to travel between times. Will the children be able to save the world from being destroyed?

I recommend this series of mystery books to people who like to read a book that has a lot of magic and prophecies. This series is one of my favourites.

Use your creativity to come up with 3 alternative names for this very exciting game!
Watch Out
Incoming!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 quarters

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.
Aim of the game: To get the least points.
Rules:
  1. Stay on your bottom at all times or you will be disqualified.
  2. Don’t let any balls into your quarter (Throw them out as soon as they come in)
  3. If there are 3 balls or more in your square at once then you will gain a point.
  4. The quarter with the least points wins.
  5. Throw the balls into the other teams square.

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Defence
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.
  • Have more balls so that the  game is faster.
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to sit on the bleaches to stretch with their arms and intercept flying balls.
  • Always be ready
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.
  • Throw it far so that they have to bum shuffle to get it. That way you have more time to get more in.
